WELCOME TO THE WALES SMALL BOAT FISHING FESTIVAL!

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

For the seventh time, the Wales Small Boat Fishing Festival will be held on Anglesey, an island situated at the North Western tip of Wales that benefits from well in excess of one hundred miles of stunning but varying coastline and having a vast richness of seafaring and maritime history. The Festival itself will be held in Amlwch, a town which is famous for its copper industry and will no doubt be one of the largest open events in the UK. The prize fund is £1600.

 

DIRECTIONS TO AMLWCH FROM THE BRITANNIA BRIDGE

Junction 8 (A5025)

Branch left (signposted Amlwch), and at T-junction turn right A5025

Four Crosses Roundabout

At roundabout take 2nd exit (Straight on)

Through the village of Pentraeth

Through the village of Benllech

Follow signs for Amlwch A5025

At (Llanallgo) roundabout, take 1st exit

Arrive at Amlwch!

Bear right at roundabout towards Amlwch Port

Follow signs towards the harbour

The Festival will be signposted from here

 

COMPETITION SCHEDULE

Thursday 1st July

Informal introductory evening with a buffet at the Adelphi Vaults, Amlwch Port from 8pm

 

Friday 2nd July 

Meet in designated car park 8.00 at Amlwch Port.

Launch between 8:00 and 10.00am.

Boats to fish WEST of Amlwch (Weather permitting – please check with safety steward)

Boats to be recovered between 4:00 and 6:00pm

Latest results will be available at the Adelphi Vaults following the weigh in.

 

Saturday 3rd July 

Launch from Amlwch port between 8:00 and 10am.

Boats to fish EAST of Amlwch (Weather permitting – please check with safety steward)

Boats to be recovered between 4:00 and 6:00pm

Results will be available at the presentation evening to take place from 8pm at Dinorben Arms, Amlwch where a buffet will be served.

OVER NIGHT TRAILER PARKING – Secure overnight trailer parking available by request at a small cost. Due to limited spaces this must be pre booked and pre-paid. Please see entry form for more details.

MATCH FISHING RULES

  • No member of the committee may compete.
  • Maximum anglers per boat: 4
  • Minimum anglers per boat: 2
  • A small boat is defined as a trailerable boat of not more than 22’.
  • Each angler may use up to 2 rods at any one time.
  • Max. three hooks per trace (treble counts as one)
  • Species Hunt - Overall prize is awarded to the boat with the most different species caught over the three days. Only one of each species per boat is to be brought to the scales over the three days.
  • Specimen of the Day can be a species already recorded in the Species Hunt section.
  • In the event of a tie for the number of species the combined weight of the fish caught will determine the winner.
  • VHF channel *tba* will be deemed as the competition channel. All skippers must ensure to monitor this channel during competition times. All skippers must answer safety boat within reasonable time when contact is made by radio. If no contact is made, 3 species will be knocked off the boat’s score for the competition and the Coastguard will be called.
  • All boats to have standard safety equipment (flares, life jackets etc)
  • All boats to carry a measuring stick - the largest minimum size is 1m for Conger Eel, please ensure that you can measure up to this size.
  • We recommend that anglers wear buoyancy aids at all times while at sea.
  • All skippers must observe speed limits where posted within the harbour.
  • All skippers to collect boat number tag from the safety board each morning and replace the tag in the evening.
  • It is the responsibility of each skipper to visit the notice board (located near the tag board) each morning. The board will carry any updates or restrictions in force on the day.
  • The fishing times and the format for the day will be confirmed before the competition start each day and noted on the notice board.
  • In the case of bad weather, limits may be applied to the range and/or the duration of the competition. Information will be on the notice board and will be announced on channel tba at competition start time.
  • All boats must report to Amlwch Port in the morning and for weigh in.
  • Boat searches will be carried out each morning. Any boat found to have any whole fish on board other than baitfish will be disqualified from that day’s match.
  • Fish sizes as per the sheet attached. (Please note legal restrictions on Bass and conservation rules concerning Blonde Rays)
  • Boats returning late to the slip will have their results for that day disqualified.
  • Any fish deemed to have been manipulated will be disqualified and that day’s results for that boat disqualified.
  • In the interests of conservation, anglers must make all possible efforts to keep inedible fish alive and return after weighing.
  • The following fish will not count: Tope

 

IMPORTANT

Please note that all competitors must be able to produce if requested evidence of the relevant comprehensive insurance documentation. You must present your insurance documentation in order to be issued with a launching pass if you do not already have one.

 

FISHING TIMES

  • All boats to be in the water between 8:00 and 10:00am as stated in Competition Schedule
  • Fishing times will be staggered depending on start time. All boats allowed maximum 8hrs fishing.
  • If you decide to come in early, the safety boast must be contacted and informed of you decision.
  • Last boat in at 4-6pm as Competition Schedule, unless mechanical breakdown, judges decision final.
  • Please try and refuel your boat the night before, as the garage can be busy in the morning with locals on their way to work.
  • Boat searches will be carried out each morning.

 

WEIGH IN

  • Weigh in will commence fifteen minutes after boat recovery
  • Weigh in will be carried out in imperial.
  • Only one of each species per boat is to be brought to the scales for the species hunt.
  • Weigh in results will be published at the end of Day 1 and at the Presentation Evening.
  • Scales used at weigh in are certified, forms will be available for any angler wishing to claim a specimen fish from the Committee.
  • It is the skippers’ responsibility to verify the correct species total and weight at weigh in. Claims for inaccuracies will not be entertained after weigh in.
  • All fish caught on the day must be weighed on the same day at Amlwch Port by the match official.
  • Any boat returning to the Port early must contact the safety boat to weigh in catch if required.

Prizes are awarded for:

  • Most number of species throughout the Festival 1st-3rd

 

  • Heaviest Round Fish (excluding Rays and Conger)
  • Heaviest Flat Fish (excluding Rays)
  • Heaviest Fish Overall

 

  • Best Junior Angler Day 1
  • Best Junior Angler Day 2
  • Best Junior Angler Overall

 

The following prizes will be calculated in accordance with the current records. (Species caught will be calculated as a percentage of those on record)

  • Best Specimen Day 1
  • Best Specimen Day 2
  • Specimen of the Week

 

  • Best Bass of the Festival
  • Best Gurnard

 

**PLEASE NOTE: ALL PERPETUAL TROPHIES AND SHIELDS WILL BE RETAINED BY THE FESTIVAL COMMITTEE AND DISPLAYED AT THE ADELPHI VAULTS **
